Society Of St Vincent De Paul Annual Christmas Collection
WITH MANY people seeking assistance on the 'edge of despair' and funds in the society now running very low, the St. Vincent depaul are this week appealing to the public for support as they hold their upcoming Christmas collection.
This collection, which will replace the SHARE collection at all Masses over this weekend, is of 'critical importance' as the organisation is experiencing a huge increase in calls for assistance.
The first ten months of 2011 has seen the St. Vincent depaul pay out €62,568.16 to local people in need - an increase of €6,541 on the same period last year.
' This year SVP members are experiencing a huge increase in calls for assistance many of which can be difficult and challenging as members are meeting many people these days who are in extreme distress, whose self-esteem is low and who are on the edge of despair,' explained the spokesperson.
'Funds in the society are now running very low,' he added. 'While we appreciate we are very fortunate with the generous support we get from the general public throughout the year nevertheless the success of the collection will be of critical importance to us this Christmas.'
